"DEI Ends: Women, Minorities Hit Hardest"
It’s striking how little resistance there has been in the press to Trump’s war on DEI.
So far, there seems to have been more media focus on comic examples of incompetence ensuing from DOGE’s move fast and break things approach, like firing hundreds of federal employees at the National Nuclear Security Administration, such as workers who assemble and disassemble nuclear weapons, then trying to hire over 90% of them back. I don’t know anything about the NNSA, but it sounds like the kind of organization where move fast and break things probably shouldn’t be your main principle.
To cut intelligently requires trustworthy insiders who understand the lay of the land, and they can take awhile to find in different federal agencies. Consider Musk’s triumph radically trimming Twitter’s employee count. Walter Isaacson's authorized biography Elon Musk points out that Musk's cost-cutting at Twitter worked out, despite countless predictions that Twitter would instantly collapse without the Deputy Associate Senior Vice President of Belongingness or whomever because Musk found a Twitter engineer named Ben San Souci who understood how things worked and what could be cut and what couldn't.
But on DEI, Trump and Musk hold the moral high ground of implementing the principle that racism is wrong no matter who the racists are.
And the Trump Administration has barely yet rolled out one legal big gun: declaring that DEI creates a “hostile environment” for whites, men, straights, etc. , which it does. There’s an endless amount of documentation published by the promoters of DEI demonstrating their racist and sexist hostility.
Few seem worried that Trump and Musk might fire the good DEI workers because a lazy, ineffectual federal DEI staffer is less bad for the country than a hard-driving one.
DEI is, more than anything else, a Jobs for the Boys racket, or, to be more precise, a Jobs for the Black Girls racket. Eliminating DEI will have disparate impact on the women and minorities, and especially minority women who got sinecures and promotions.
Just a few years ago, hiring more black women into jobs they weren’t qualified for was just about the highest priority of the Establishment. But the DEIsters wore out their welcome so fast that, at the moment, few who aren’t collecting a DEI paycheck are actively lamenting their grift getting shut down.
In my experience it wasn't black women who have been hostile toward me (many have been surprisingly nice and accommodating), but rather somewhat older, politically-correct white ladies in hr with an honorable mention going to politically engaged homosexuals.
They have been relentless in their gatekeeping. Show any sign of independent thought as a straight white male and your resume is instantly round-filed. I essentially gave up on white collar work because of this -- I'm constitutionally incapable of lying for self-advancement, which today is a real disability.
So, is the collapse of DEI similar to, say, the collapse of the old Warsaw Pact Communist Parties, or is it more like the collapse of the Tulip mania of the 1630s or the South Sea Bubble of 1720? On the one hand, DEI shares with communism a quasi-religious attitude toward social/political life, but, on the other, it does seem to share with the short-lived bubbles the characteristics of a mind virus associated with the irrationality of crowd behavior.
