The major problem is that it takes the cutting of a lot of red tape in order to fail a student, while giving them a D- is free and easy. Now, it doesn't have to be this way, but the new breed of principals see themselves as customer-service providers and want to be buddy-buddy with the students. Even if the teacher crosses all of their t's and dots all of their i's, the principal can still make their lives difficult in other ways, so even if the teacher wins that particular battle, they lose the war.

As for chronic absenteeism, unless you are taking an honors or advanced class, the pace is so slow that missing days will not greatly affect learning because so much reteaching and review is built into the system as you much teach the level of the dumbest student in your class. In addition, if a student misses a particular lesson, they feel entitled to go to the teacher after school to have the topic retaught. When I was in school, if we missed class, we had to get the notes from a classmate and that was that.

Didn’t you also have to bring a note from your parents that you were sick?

Yes, we had a specific attendance secretary who would handle such things

Parents saw how much of the school day is wasted and reacted naturally. I know a few families who now pull their kids for long weekend trips and other reasons who never would have done that pre-Covid. There is nothing the schools can do to stop this either.

United Teachers Los Angeles President Cecily Myart-Cruz, in Los Angeles Magazine, 2021:

“There is no such thing as learning loss. Our kids didn’t lose anything. It’s OK that our babies may not have learned all their times tables. They learned resilience. They learned survival. They learned critical-thinking skills. They know the difference between a riot and a protest. They know the words insurrection and coup.”

“It is not radical to ask for ethnic studies. It is not radical to ask for childcare. It’s not radical to ask for police-free schools so that students don’t feel criminalized. That is not radical; that’s just fact.”

“Education is political. People don’t want to say that, but it is.”

“Reopening schools without…a broader improvement of schools will be unsafe and will only deepen…racial and class inequalities.”

“You can recall the Governor. You can recall the school board. But how are you going to recall me?”

McGahan closes with a quote from an old friend of Myart-Cruz: “Cecily wishes the world could be more like a classroom where she could get people to break down the boundaries between them and make them into a community. With her in charge.”

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would suggest that this is part of a plan to reintroduce segregation into our schools! Can these "people of color" educators really be this stupid, hateful, and anti-intellectual?

Thanks--I was using that term mockingly! She's Hispanic; the left considers Hispanics as "POC" when they agree with them but call Hispanics "White" when they don't (for example, Cuban-Americans, who tend to be conservative).

Richwine and Biggs looked at the average SAT and GRE scores, and well as the National Longitudinal Surveys that included the Air Force Qualifying Test and found that teachers were, on average, less intelligent than those with similar education levels.

The Daily Kos claims that can't be true, because the SAT test also shows racial differences, which can't be real.

"The first such objective essentially IQ test? The SAT. That would be the same SAT that year after year shows major racial and gender gaps [link in original]in scores. So if that's an objective measure of cognitive ability, we have our official answer: Asians are the smartest, followed by whites, American Indians and Alaskan natives, Mexicans and Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, and blacks. Men, of course, are smarter than women.”

The authors Richwine and Biggs also used the Armed Forces Qualification Test, which is essentially an IQ test.

https://www.wnd.com/2019/05/8-year-old-grilled-about-gender-parents-sue-school/

A school district in Oregon is being sued after a teacher repeatedly grilled an 8-year-old student about whether he thought he is a girl, gave him videos on transgenderism to watch and provided instructional books.

KPTV-TV reported the parents of a student in Woodburn, Oregon, filed a complaint alleging their son was held back from recess by the teacher for multiple one-on-one conversations about his gender identity. The parents were not told what the teacher was doing.

[T]he mother told the station: "He feels different now, he feels confused. To hear your son say that … on a couch talking to a therapist, holding back tears – it's very heartbreaking."

The 8-year-old is a student at Nellie Muir Elementary School.

A Black Lives Matter activist and teacher has come out criticizing the sum and universal truth “2+2=4” calling the expression “Western Imperialist/Colonization” and our thinking of it as “the only way of knowing.”

The controversial tweet in question reads: “Nope the idea of 2 + 2 equaling 4 is cultural and because of western imperialism/colonization, we think of it as the only way of knowing.”

The teacher has since locked her Twitter account following the backlash from the tweet.

PJ Media located the PhD student in a Rutgers University directory where her specialization is Mathematics Education.

(This was wrongly reported in other media as a "math teacher," but "mathematics education" is different.)

Medical professors are forced to apologize for saying "male" and "female" and for saying "pregnant women," after leftist students sign lists attacking them. They are also attacked for saying "breastfeed" instead of "chestfeed."

“Wokeness,” as one doctor put it, “feels like an existential threat.”

“I don’t want you to think that I am in any way trying to imply anything, and if you can summon some generosity to forgive me, I would really appreciate it,” the physician says in a recording provided by a student in the class (whom I’ll call Lauren). “Again, I’m very sorry for that. It was certainly not my intention to offend anyone. The worst thing that I can do as a human being is be offensive.”

His offense: using the term “pregnant women.”

“I said ‘when a woman is pregnant,’ which implies that only women can get pregnant and I most sincerely apologize to all of you.

"Again, I’m very sorry for that. It was certainly not my intention to offend anyone. The WORST THING that I can do as a human being is be offensive.”

In a lecture on transgender health, an instructor declared: “Biological sex, sexual orientation, and gender are all constructs. These are all constructs that we have created.”

But, Lauren says, instructors who discuss sex risk complaints from their students — which is why, she thinks, many don’t. “I think there’s a small percentage of instructors who are true believers. But most of them are probably just scared of their students,” she says.

And for good reason. Her medical school hosts an online forum in which students correct their instructors for using terms like “male” and “female” or “breastfeed” instead of “chestfeed.” Students can lodge their complaints in real time during lectures. After one class, Lauren says, she heard that a professor was so upset by students calling her out for using “male” and “female” that she started crying.

Katie Herzog: To put it most simply, institutions and medical schools in particular are going woke. They are incorporating gender ideology into their curricula. I interviewed a student at a top medical school who was being taught in her classes that sex is a social construct. She showed me audio of an instructor in the medical school saying that.

2022: Minneapolis teachers union contract calls for layoffs of white teachers first

A Minneapolis teachers union contract stipulates that white teachers will be laid off or reassigned before “educators of color” in the event Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) needs to reduce staff.

After the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT) and MPS struck a deal on March 25 to end a 14-day teacher strike, the two sides drew up and ratified a new collective bargaining agreement complete with various proposals.

One of the proposals dealt with “educators of color protections.” The agreement states that if a non-white teacher is subject to excess, MPS must excess a white teacher with the “next least” seniority.

“Starting with the Spring 2023 Budget Tie-Out Cycle, if excessing a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers in the site, the District shall excess the next least senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population,” the agreement reads.

https://dailycaller.com/2022/08/31/connecticut-assistant-principal-placed-on-leave-after-he-bragged-about-blacklisting-catholic-conservative-teachers/

2022: An assistant principal in a Connecticut elementary school was placed on administrative leave after a viral video uncovered that he allegedly used discriminatory hiring practices, according to Greenwich Public Schools.

Project Veritas, a guerilla journalism outlet, spoke with Cos Cob Elementary School Assistant Principal Jeremy Boland about his hiring process for elementary school teachers in newly released video footage. Boland said in multiple undercover interviews that he does not hire Catholic or conservative educators and attempts to hire candidates exclusively under the age of 30.

The undercover journalist asked Boland whether he found that individuals with religious views “tend to be more right-wing?”

“Almost all of them,” Boland said. “I’m not a huge expert on religion, but Protestants in this area are probably the most liberal. But if they’re Catholic — conservative.”

...........

In the same interview, Boland told the reporter that liberal educators at the elementary school teach kids “how to think” and decipher what is good and bad based on Democratic policy prescriptions.

“Believe it or not, the open-minded, more progressive teachers are actually more savvy about delivering a Democratic message without really ever having to mention their politics,” Boland said. “They’ll never say, ‘Oh, this is a liberal or Democratic way of doing this.’ They just make that the norm.”
