I think South Africa’s example shows fairly conclusively that for practical purposes there is no point at which the coalition of the fringes will turn on each other. Sure, there might be some internecine squabbling here at there - a nation turns its lonely eyes to you, Nury Martinez! - but all these groups know deep down that it’s just a warmup for the real contest.
