I was once stuck in a crowded hospital elevator in a Jacksonville hospital with 8 black strangers and my sister-in-law. (We are both white).

After a couple of long minutes the conversation finally progressed to “who’s going to pick-up the elevator phone and report our plight ?” A couple of “not me” comments were offered before “let the white guy call” was unanimously adopted with two abstentions. I spoke to Otis HQ in Bangladesh or wherever and about ten minutes later firemen with crowbars liberated us. Plans for an annual reunion were suggested but never happened. It did, however, end with smiles and handshakes. I guess everyone had just finished breakfast.

Fear is a great driver of people's actions if not the greatest. The easiest way to get a man or woman to commit atrocities is to fill them with fear. The lesson of this funny story is not that people can turn on each other quickly but that they will turn on YOU. As America devolves into a low trust society it gets easier to instill fear into individuals. I hear about China where passersby ignore people in obvious distress because they are afraid the distress is a scam and a trap. Is that what's in store for Americans?

If you read to the end of Scott's article it provides a good explainer as to why obviously ridiculous woke ideologies "orphan suppport clubs" end up dominating society.
