The Fundamental Constant of Sociology
The Biden Administration can't grasp how bell curves work.
Last week, the Administration’s Department of Justice ruled that it constituted unintentional disparate impact discrimination to use a written test as part of the Maryland State Police hiring process at which only 9% of white job applicants failed but 29% of black job applicants failed.
This week, the same cast of Biden Administration officials ruled that Durham, North Carolina was engaging in unintentional disparate impact discrimination by using as part of its firefighter hiring process a written test on which 11% of white applicants failed compared to 37% of black applicants.
Do those two sets of percentages (9% vs. 29% and 11% vs. 37%) look fairly similar to you? It’s almost as if they are both from a normal distribution with close to a one standard deviation different in average IQ scores, what the sage known as La Griffe du Lion dubbed the Fundamental Constant of Sociology.
The Fundamental Constant of Sociology is an elegantly simple concept. But can you imagine trying to get a Biden-Harris Administration official to understand it?
Similarly, can you imagine trying to get an Administration official to come up with a plausible argument for why we perhaps should use racial quotas for cops but not for firemen? I think you can make a stronger case for the cop quotas than fireman quotas, but how many Department of Justice officials could grasp the argument?
Discriminating against Whites who do better on tests is "diversity."
From the second link, the anti-White in charge of the case is: Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.
She is a Black, of course.
>>"Discriminatory employment tests do more than cost applicants a fair chance to compete for public service jobs like firefighting; they also PREVENT communities from being served in these crucial positions by THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES for the job"
By testing applicants you deprive people from having the most qualified firemen. Black logic.
>>"The under-representation of Black people in the fire department workforce in Durham, and across the country, undermines public safety efforts. This settlement agreement requires the Durham Fire Department to reform its unlawful hiring process and provide MONETARY AND OTHER RELIEF to those already harmed. "
The taxpayers have to pay the Blacks who can't pass the test.
>>“Employers should identify and eliminate practices that have a disparate impact based on race,” said U.S. Attorney Sandra J. Hairston for the Middle District of North Carolina.
Sandra Hairston is also a Black.
>>Under the terms of the consent decree also filed yesterday, DFD will:
>>Adopt a written test that does not discriminate in violation of Title VII and provide data to the department on the administration of the new test to ensure compliance;
>>Pay $980,000 in back pay to applicants who were disqualified by DFD’s uses of the challenged test; and
>>Hire up to 16 applicants who were unfairly disqualified by the challenged test and who successfully complete the new firefighter selection process.
The settlement means they are FORCED to hire Blacks who failed the test, AND pay them "backpay" for time they didn't work.
Our descent into self-imposed mediocrity continues.
