From the Vice Presidential debate transcript:
NO: Welcome back to the CBS News vice presidential debate. We want to turn now to America's gun violence epidemic, the leading cause of death for children and teens in America is by firearms….
The goal here is to make people think of Columbine-style school shootings, which are horrific, but also fairly rare, rather than of black on black shootings (or suicides or accidents), which are extremely common, but are embarrassing for Democrats to mention.
Tim Walz: Well, I think all the parents watching tonight, this is your biggest nightmare. Look, I got a, I got a 17 year old, and he witnessed a shooting at a community center playing volleyball. Those things don't leave you.
J.D. Vance: Awful.
By all accounts, the two candidates seemed to get along pretty well. My guess is that Vice Presidential candidates tend to have good personalities, which is a big reason they get picked for their high honor. Vance is obviously a high quality individual. My concern about Walz is that he was picked too much for his Regular Guyness and might prove to lack the cognitive horsepower needed in case he becomes President. But, it seems implausible to assume that a highly successful politician like Walz lacks an appealing personality.
Anyway, back to shootings.
Here’s the shooter that Walz’s son was exposed to.
