Went to an HBCU, perhaps the most elite one (Howard), but still… She did not stand out academically there. That said, she did not appear to struggle with classes either while keeping up a busy social schedule at Howard’s most elite sorority. Her younger sister went to UC Berkeley.
Got into Hastings Law School under an affirmative action program originally called Minority Assistance Program, then renamed Legal Education Opportunity Program. Hastings (now UC San Francisco Law School) is currently #82 in the country, although I have been told it was more prestigious back in her day. It’s a good law school if you want to become an assistant district attorney and go into local politics, but not if you want to go into M&A and make big money. The New York Times reported that even at Hastings, “she was not a gifted student in the way her parents were, and was not viewed as ‘most likely to succeed…’” Meanwhile, her younger sister went to stratospheric Stanford Law School.
