I have a vague impression that Botswana, besides having a lot of diamonds, benefited from getting its independence late, in the 1980s. It's ruling elite seemed to have learned a lot of lessons from what other African countries that got independence a generation before did wrong.

Santo Domingo Mahogany from the island was considered the best for 18th cent. fine furniture, so prized that they overharvested. I wonder if Haiti never recovered as D.R. did, or how much of its denuding is more recent. These days, it's just old brown furniture to young people, but mahogany might again be a decent source of income for people who can control themselves and plan ahead. Shame that it just goes up in smoke.

Eric Holder described America as "a nation of cowards" for shirking a conversation about race in 2009. That striking phrase was previously introduced as the title of an essay by Jeffrey Snyder, published in The Public Interest journal in 1993, which created a sensation among the Second Amendment crowd. Snyder eloquently argued the premise that American citizens' failure to defend themselves against criminal violence made them guilty of cowardice.

Snyder wrote: "It is impossible to address the problem of rampant crime without talking about the moral responsibility of the intended victim. Crime is rampant because the law-abiding, each of us, condone it, excuse it, permit it, submit to it. We permit and encourage it because we do not fight back, immediately, then and there, where it happens. Crime is not rampant because we do not have enough prisons, because judges and prosecutors are too soft, because the police are hamstrung with absurd technicalities. The defect is there, in our character. We are a nation of cowards and shirkers." [ https://www.rkba.org/comment/cowards.html]

There is considerable overlap between addressing violent crime and having a conversation about race.

Expand full comment

Eric Holder comes from a country where their race conversation is the paper bag test. "You should be no darker than a brown paper bag to marry our daughter." Concern about skin tone is widespread, and the unspoken reason aside from the obvious aesthetics is that they want the White blood in the family to be preserved. He knows this goes on, but says nothing about it, instead berating Whites for "racism."

Leftists always lie. If they didn't, they couldn't be leftists.

Speaking of which, I remember a dark-skinned Black guy in the U.S. writing in a forum about how Black girls are "colorist." On dating sites they'd ask to see his picture, and when they saw how dark he was he didn't hear from them again. Even when they were that dark themselves. If they were at least somewhat hot, they wanted someone lighter. I guess the same girls will join the college chorus against "racism" when it suits them.

This reminds me of a thorny "discussion" with a friend on "underfunded" schools in Philly (etc). Looking doe-eyed at me, she claimed that all would be well with more....FUNDING. At the same time, she claimed that years ago when teaching in those schools, she was so....depressed...for some reason, was glad to leave and never return.

Anyway, I asked why the neighborhoods where these "underfunded" schools look the way they do -- hostile -- unkempt -- dangerous! Even in my relatively decent (black) neighborhood in Brooklyn, she claims to feel "scared' walking the six blocks from the subway to my apartment.

Why, I asked, is it always the same argument -- funding? Who lives in these places? Could it be that? After all, where DOES the funding go? To replacing the books that get thrown away the way home from school?

As for eating cats in Springfield, call me silly, but I didn't question it at all. The voodoo would make them do it.

That Harris smirked at Trump and denied having anything to do with pumping the third world into that Rust Belt town is sheer narcissistic deviousness.

And yet the "compassionate' masses can't find an ounce of compassion for the citizens whose town has been turned into a Voodoo Slum.

The "underfunding" is, of course, a lie. It's difficult to parse out exact money based on demographics, but, if anything, predominantly minority schools are "overfunded." 2024 funding per student:

New York (state): $24,881

Washington DC (overwhelmingly black): $22,832

New Hampshire (predominantly White): $17,456

It's like how commenter Countenance pointed out why the Ferguson police department was so white: If you want to get paid well, you can work for the St. Louis PD but you'll have to deal with a lot of lowlifes. If you want an easy job but low pay, you can work for a police department in the exurbs. Nobody wants low pay, which is all the downscale inner ring suburb of Ferguson could afford, and dealing with lowlifes all day ... so black cops, who are more in demand due to affirmative action, worked in the city or in the exurbs, and only white cops wound up in Ferguson.

In 1915, after an especially chaotic period, U.S. Marines were sent into Haiti to halt domestic unrest. They were in Haiti for 19 years, during which they not only enforced governmental stability, but they also built schools and hospitals, and more than 1000 miles of paved roads with 210 bridges. (The Haitians did not build these things themselves.) The U.S. government trained Haitian teachers and doctors at the expense of US taxpayers. America gave the Haitians a chance for a fresh start. But as soon as the U.S. Marines pulled out in 1934, Haiti sank again, like a rock that had been brought briefly to the surface of the water and then let go. Everything the Americans had built for them was scavenged to pieces, destroyed by arson or by vandalism, or allowed to rot through neglect: wasn't fixed, wasn't rebuilt, until only ruins were left.

The same thing happened again in 1958. The US Marines went in and rebuilt Haiti's infrastructure and got its economy going again, at a cost to US taxpayers of hundreds of millions of dollars. They rebuilt the roads and the bridges, the school and the hospitals, plus some electric power plants and a modern telephone system. When the Marines left, Haiti once again fell apart due to internal corruption, domestic unrest, and native indolence.

And it happened again in 1994. The same foolishness. The same result.

A recent news editorial put Haiti's problems, incompletely, like this: "...though the Haitians and the UN are officially in charge of this crisis, a new reality has dawned: only a full-scale army can lift Haiti off its knees."

--------------------------

When Haiti was Saint Domingue its agricultural product was higher than in the original thirteen U.S. colonies. When the Blacks took control, after mass rape and eating the flesh of Whites, the roads and buildings decayed. When they cut down the trees the soil blew into the ocean.

A visitor noted that a government institute had a high-sounding name but the building was empty. They had plenty of generals and colonels and so on, for a small army. It reminds me of "we wuz kangs!" Blacks calling each other "king" and "queen". It's a constant in social media, calling their idols a king or a queen - humility and taste have no place. Like making videos wearing a fur coat simply because it's expensive, with gold chains simply because they are expensive, and diamonds and gold framings for the teeth. If you want to see a nation based on all talk and vile action, look to Haiti.

Haiti has the highest HIV burden in the Caribbean, with an estimated 150,000 people living with HIV. However the percent of Haiti's population living with HIV has remained stable at about two percent since 2008, thanks in large part to USAID's support and ongoing work in vulnerable communities.

Ok, you can blame Whites, specifically White gay sex tourists, for that one.

Expand full comment

My mind was blown when I found out that Haiti has one of the oldest strains of HIV and it spread through gay sexual tourism. I read Niccolo Soldo's series on HIV and was shocked how the reality didn't match the story I've absorbed in media and our culture.

Expand full comment

Indeed, the fact that the HIV spread is almost entirely caused by homosexual men. But we never hear that. Instead you'll see TV shows where some over-the-top mean White guy says the poor innocent homosexual guy must be spreading AIDS. Or for example, in The Office, the blond (therefore bad) and Christian conservative Angela, after learning that Oscar (the competent, most intelligent guy in the office) is homosexual, screams "don't touch me!" when he comes close to her. Scenes like that are meant to silence the NOTICING of homosexual men in fact being far, far more prone to have STDs and spread them. Especially when many of them have hundreds of sex contacts.

Whereas in the list of HIV prevalence, heterosexual White men don't even have their own category as there are so few cases.

Expand full comment

The question is how did HIV enter such wide spread in Haiti, from its base somewhere in the depths of Africa. A number of pathways have been theorized, not at first directly related to man-on-man sex but through some returning Haitian doctors dispatched to one of Africa's many crisis-spots. From that small team, it spread into the Haitian general-population, from whence it entered the homosexual networks of North America after a while.

It's not a stretch, therefore, to say Haiti may have been the "cause" of AIDS as we know it, at least in North America.

Sex tourism, but they could be using condoms. Studies show that there's an enormous difference in STDs among prostitutes depending on condom use. Those who use condoms at all times actually have a lower level than the population average, as the rest of the population does not have the same consistent condom use.

Same in Africa, lack of condom use. And also, in large parts of Africa they don't use lubrication, which is named as a major reason for the spread of STDs. This causes tears in the vagina, where infections can enter. The lack of lubrication has two reasons: They think the feeling is increased for the man by the friction. But also, they like causing the woman pain, it makes them feel more dominant.

Expand full comment

Except they don't. And frankly the kind of people who go to third world countries for sex tourism generally don't particularly care about the long term health of their bottoms.

Expand full comment

I meant, "sex tourism, but the Haitian prostitutes could have been using condoms," and insisted on the customers using condoms, and then the sex tourism wouldn't be such a big HIV cause.

And from the link above, numbers mine:

"Progress toward HIV epidemic control has stalled due to frequent interruptions in treatment and (1) patients not remaining engaged in care. (2) Weak governance and coordination; geographic and financial barriers to accessing health services; difficulty in retaining qualified health professionals; and growing insecurity are all chronic challenges to managing HIV cases in Haiti. Human resources for health are scarce, with many skilled health care professionals leaving the country in search of better jobs or (3) for their own safety."

(1) Haitians are such trash they don't even care about an HIV infection.

(2) Haitian governance is trash.

(3) Haitian society is trash.

I mean, the sex tourism is one thing. Naturally it increases risk. But when it's sex tourism to Haiti, the problems are magnified. I'm sure that, for example, homosexual prostitution in Germany doesn't spread HIV in the same way.

Expand full comment

Homosexuals in Germany have access to HIV drugs.

Before those were developed, HIV was spreading rather quickly among the Western gay population as well.

Expand full comment

I'm sure the consistency of condom use must play a role as well, it is always mentioned as a factor when it comes to the spread of HIV. And we see a high HIV prevalence all over Africa as well, sex tourism from the West or not. And even if the Haitian prostitutes don't have access to "antiretroviral therapy," ART, those Western tourists must have it; apparently 77% of all HIV patients in the world have access to ART. And from what I have read, consistent use of ART eliminates the spread of HIV to new sex partners. So then when HIV keeps spreading in Haiti, it must be due to Haitian carelessness, not bothering with condoms when having sex with each other. As the link above shows, there is indeed a careless attitude toward HIV infection in Haiti.

At least they aren't raping virgin girls in the belief that the disease will then move over to them, as they do in much of Africa, including South Africa. At least, I hope they aren't. Then again, the Haitians are still bleading bulls to death in voodoo sacrifice, and they still believe in voodoo zombis, so anything is possible. When an opponent to the president was believed to have the ability to transform into a black dog, the police were shooting black dogs on sight in Port-au-Prince.

Haiti, then Saint Domingue, was the "pearl of the Antilles," top producer of sugar and coffee and near the top in indigo, cacao and cotton. It outproduced the entire Spanish Empire in the Americas. It outproduced the original 13 U.S. colonies.

There were 25,000 Whites, 22,000 free Blacks and 700,000 slaves.

The slaves revolted in 1971 and fought the Whites for 13 years, before declaring independence in 1804. Jean-Jacques Dessalines declared himself emperor for life. He promised to protect the remaining 5,000 Whites but changed his mind and killed them. Only a few were spared, such as women who agreed to marry Blacks.

The dictator himself was murdered after two years.

Beginning in 1824 Whites paid for about 6,000 freed Blacks slaves to move from the U.S. to Haiti, but they went back to White rule in the U.S. after a taste of Black rule.

The heads of state were shot, committed suicide, died of disease, fled to France, and so on until 1915. After J. Vilbrun Guillaume Sam was cut to pieces the U.S. sent in the Marines. They ran the place for 19 years, an unrivalled period of peace and growth. The U.S. trained the Haitian army and built 189 bridges and 1,000 miles of road.

After they left the Haitians went back to their usual habits, corrupt rule and murder. They still practice voodoo and believe in zombies, humans turning into animals and voodoo priests getting powers from eating human flesh. They never built a single mile of railroad or highway.

In 2021 President Moise Juvenal was killed, shot to death in his bedroom. Ariel Henry took over, promising an election but then postponing it. So there was a shootout with his security detail; one killed, two wounded. Gangs started terrorizing the capital. The demonstrators in the French-speaking country conveniently have signs written in English for the media.

Bodies pile up in the streets, no one removes them. Locals built barriers against the marauders. The bandits attacked the prisons, releasing thousands of criminals on the population and burning the prisons to prevent them from being used again. They attacked the police stations, fired at airplanes and closed the airport. The gangs took over the port to loot the containers, as Haitians even in the best of times live on free food paid for by White taxpayers.

The gangs have looted the hospitals and scared away the staff. An American missionary who runs an orphanage says the shooting never stops. The U.S. embassy has helicoptered out staff but simply told her, "stay safe."

When the UN was there in 2010, Nepalese UN staff brought a cholera epidemic. 100 Sri Lankan UN soldiers were thrown out for "sexual exploitation and abuse of minors." One of them said, "What do you expect us to do when the UN is providing us with free condoms?"

The cannibal gang leader Jimmy "Barbecue" Cherizier, who burns people alive, says he is fighting "racism" and corruption - they always know what words to use to affect the U.S. media and politicans.

Meanwhile Haitians go to Nicaragua to get on a bus to the "racist" U.S., where Joe Biden claims "white supremacy" is the worst terror threat. Haitians in the U.S. are the poorest immigrants, even poorer than Iraqis and Afghans.

I know this view isn't popular but I regard all people as equally valiable because we all have the same feelings and more or less feel the same sort of hurts or pleasures. The fact that Hatians evolved towards lesser capacities for financial success than Jews in the current world order doesn't make them any less human.

To prove that I believe this, see my latest video discussing in some detail how, as an Orthodox Rabbi, on the matter of the traditional tribal view of too many Jews who fail to understand the context of the Bible's focus on Israelities.

https://ydydy.substack.com/p/me

I don't mention it there, but the precise words of God published in The Book of Amos, written some 2,800 years ago are:

הלוא כבני כשיים אתם לי בני ישראל? נאם יהוה

"The utterance of Yehowa: Sons of Israel, do you think you really matter more to me than Schvartzas?"

I lived for 3 years in Little Haiti, Brooklyn. The only white (and kippa wearing!) person to do so. And while I could write a complete book of the sort to please those who would like to denigrate Hatians, my takeaway FACT is that all of their dysfunction and crime comes from deprivation and shame at being genetically incapable of being rewarded by the current world system. One by which they are indeed, "inferior human capital".

But I stand with Yehowa, Father of us ALL, in saying that they are no less valuable than you or I, and that their failure, and the failure of the millions of people in our prisons and on our streets is OUR sin and our crime.

If we do not care for the happiness of our fellow men we oughtn't be surprised if they don't care for ours.

The Bible is a very very old book, and generations worth of credulous fools teaching it to credulous children has ruined its reputation among those few who are capable of understanding it were they to read it on its own terms.

Steve and his readers belong to that class of readers capable of such an unbiased reading. Whether you are capable of overcoming everything you already thought you knew about the Bible in order to be able to read it as it's intended to be read is a harder question to answer.

You know for example that the Bible says: "Do Not Murder", but do you know how seriously the bible means it and what PRECISELY DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS it provides in the event that someone dies under unknown circumstances?

Perhaps this will open your eyes to the expectations our creator has for the society we must have -- or suffer the consequences without.

2016:

>Donald Trump was the only presidential candidate who highlighted that the Clinton-backed earthquake recovery project in Haiti was an absolute disgrace, Dr. Dady Chery, a Haitian-born journalist, told Sputnik, adding that she believes that Haitian-Americans are not the only ones who voted for Trump to see the Clintons brought to justice.

............

>After Wikileaks released Hillary Clinton’s personal emails it became clear that the US response to Haiti earthquake back in 2010 was hardly a “success story.”

>>“People were still in mourning, about three weeks after the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010, when the US Ambassador to Haiti, Kenneth Merten, wrote a situation paper for the State Department, and he cheerfully titled a section of it ‘The Gold Rush is on!’ Thanks to a Wikileaks cable from February 1, 2010, we know that the State Department was privately cheering Haiti’s misfortune while Secretary Hillary Clinton was publicly acting like she was heartbroken about Haiti,” Dr. Dady Chery, a Haitian-born journalist and News Junkie Post Co-Editor in Chief told Sputnik.

>“The gold rush meant an avalanche of Haitian contracts to private businesses. It also meant many grants and contracts from USAID to politically connected contractors from the Washington DC area. Most of them were ‘Friends of Bill,’ or ‘FOBs,’ who had made donations to the Clinton Foundation, as we also learned from an ABC News investigation and Freedom of Information Act documents,” Chery continued.

>The journalist recalled that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) gave out about $1.5 billion of grants and contracts for the Caribbean country in 2010 but only 35 percent of the sum was spent by 2012.

>What is more embarrassing is that there were no financial reviews and virtually no accounting of the expenditures

>>“Immediately after the earthquake, the Clintons also collected about $30 million for Haiti through the Clinton Foundation. From the foundation’s taxes, we know that only about 10 percent of funds were spent on charity, so only about $3 million were spent on Haiti, and it is unclear how. There were also about $54 million from the Bush-Clinton Fund, but most of that money was spent on mortgages, microfinance, and on refurbishing and building luxury hotels,” Chery told Sputnik.

-------------------------

I also remember that a woman connected to the Clintons tried to bring in a number of Haitian children to the U.S. after the earthquake, I think it was about nine, without having the papers for them. But I don't have the link anymore, because this was in the large collection of news - gathered from mainstream sources - in Pizzagate that were erased from Reddit. While the media worked hard on making sure no one could ever quote those facts, just like you couldn't quote the facts from the DNC Leak without "helping the Russians and Trump."
